As humans we spend our whole lives going through a number of transitions. First and foremost we go through the transition of birth followed by a process of learning to walk, talk, understand events and build memories. Then just when we think we have got it, we are sent off to pre-school which marks the beginning of a whole host of new transitions. Transition Coaching is about working with individuals who may a) find themselves thinking about something new, b) approaching a point of change or c) at the proverbial cross-roads, trying to working out which path to take next. For young people this will often be linked to education as they transition from one Key Stage to another (G.C.S.E’s, Sixth Form, College or University) however there will be those who prefer to make that leap from the world of education into the world of work. For others, it may be making a transition from one career role to another or leaving the corporate ‘9 to 5’ for an alternative lifestyle or retirement. Often referred to as the third component of the ‘Triangle of Support’, coaching is for those who recognise that they may need little more than the support of a good friend or family member to help them achieve their plans or dreams. Individuals who need someone who is not only rooting for them to succeed but someone who will also hold them accountable without judgement or making them feeling like they have failed in their efforts. How does it work? Well, it begins with an understanding that as an individual, you have a unique life path, a unique understanding of the world around you and if asked the right questions you will work out the answers for yourself. It is about trusting your ability to succeed. So, how does the Coach fit into the equation? A Coach will listen for what is not being said, taking the time to help you uncover blocks so that you can create and nurture a goal which can then be brought into manifestation. It is a challenging yet empowering process that allows you to think for yourself, to take charge of what happens next, accept responsibility for the actions that you have chosen and grow without limiting opinions that may or may not serve your purpose. Coaching is about getting results – results that will be subject to how much effort you are willing to put in to the process and how determined you are to make the changes you need to make to achieve your goal.
